How has technology influenced learning English?

English is the most important language to face the challenges that globalization involves, so it requires special attention. English is an international movement both social and academic. The world is changing and technology has influenced learning methods.

 

Technology is a fundamental tool that allows English teachers to integrate different skills with their various alternatives to incorporate it: videos, websites, blogs and social networks provide the opportunity for students to find entertainment and motivation to share information, explore new areas of knowledge , be autonomous and above all build better social skills. In addition, it encourages autonomous learning, encourages critical thinking and respects different learning styles and rhythms, and, last but not least, the construction of better social skills that make this learning meaningful and valuable for them. Currently, during the health emergency, we have required virtual and digital applications and that is how in the technological world we find many programs that make it easier for us to learn this language. For example:

1)      Duolingo

The application works like a game in which you will lose lives for each failure, while the successes will periodically increase your level.

2)      Babbel

Its simplicity is a great virtue but also a disadvantage, since it does not introduce elements of grammar. On the other hand, you will be able to see the use of words in different contexts.

3)      Busuu

With Busuu you will be able to learn grammar, although in return you do not have the option of practicing pronunciation.

4)      Wlingua

Wlingua is an authentic English course to do from your mobile. Very complete and intuitive, it guides the student through its different options but lets them go following their own learning pace.

5)      Beelingo

Beelingo has a website with different resources to learn, including applications for your smartphone.

In my case, the virtual and technological tools have been a great help to introduce me to learning English, because unfortunately my knowledge of the language is few for lack of a guide to teach me the fundamentals of this subject. This is why I emphasize the importance and impact that technology has caused on students when it comes to learning.

As students, we must take advantage of technological tools to enter the world of English instead of using them to play games or burn time; the use of new technologies in education increases the interest of adolescents in academic activities, since the learning experience is enriched. They provide flexibility and adaptability, allowing students to follow different rhythms in their learning. Facilitates understanding.
